2026 Update
2026 California Licensing Update

No more required hours. Starting January 1, 2026, California removed the requirement to complete a specific number of prelicensing hours for Life & Health. That means the old “40-hour” and “52-hour” hour counts are not a state requirement anymore.

The exam is the same. The California licensing exam is not changing, so the topics and state objectives still matter.

Ethics is still required. You still must complete 12 hours of Ethics and California Insurance Code before the California Department of Insurance can issue your license.
